When he inexplicably vanishes, his publisher (Academy Award - winner John Trent (Sam Neill, Jurassic Park, Dead Calm) to track him down. Drawn to a town that only exists in Cane's books, Trent crosses the barrier between fact and fiction and enters a terrifying world from which there is no escape.

Oh, The horror of it all! - 4.5 out of 5 (2/8/2000)
"In the Mouth of Madness" is supposed to be the third and final film in John Carpenter's Armageddon trilogy. Those familiar with his work know that he went through a spell where all of his films ended along with the end of the world. Unlike "They live" and "Prince of Darkness" which both ended with screen to Black. "Madness" starts with the very same image.
The book is based on the writings of H.P. Lovecraft of whom it is said would be the most popular fiction writer alive, had he lived to t

When the lines of sanity suddenly disappear - 3.75 out of 5 (10/2/2001)
Not since Carpenter's milestone horror film 'Halloween' have I actually been spooked enough to have had my rear end take sudden flight as I recently experienced while watching this highly underrated horror movie. Why this has not yet come to fruition is beyond me? Although it seems that finally, some are seeing the light (err...red in this case maybe) and embracing the film for what it really is: a solid work of terror!
Carpenter still shows that he can really scare the hell out of you! 'I

It will drive you into madness.......... - 4.25 out of 5 (3/11/2000)
John Carpenter has done it again...
Not just a simple horror movie with axes, zombies,
blood and gore,it takes deep into the world of thinking if that is for real...
Sam Neill as leading character who was sent
after a horror writer who had been missing for a while..The deeper he goes, the more insane he gets as he enters to his novels and became one of his
fictional characters...
Dvd is itself is quite good with good audio and top notch video quality. It is crystal clear and
colors are v

One of Carpenter’s best is treated nicely on DVD! - 4.75 out of 5 (2/14/2000)
I had no idea that this horror movie would have this deep of a plot. It takes the laws of reality and convincingly bends them around a dark story. The story is set up perfectly by revolving around a character named John Trent (Sam Neill) who is a strong willed man that stands strongly in his belief that if it doesn't sound logical then it is a hoax. He quickly finds himself having a harder and harder time believing that the weird and horrific sights that he is seeing aren't real. It begins w
